River Nanny
The River Nanny is a steep-sided river which flows into the Irish Sea at Laytown, a coastal village popular with beach-goers. The source of the Nanny is said to be located 3km south-east of the town of Navan, and the Nanny has one main tributary, the River Hurley, along with a number of small streams that also flow into the river.
The estuary of the River Nanny is protected under the EU Birds Directive and is an ideal habitat for a variety of water-birds including the Oystercatcher, Ringed & Golden Plover, Knot, Herring Gull and the Sanderling.
